Grandma Phyllis Coppeller, Gt grandad Phillip Coppeller, gt gt grandad Anthony F Coppeller and My Great Great Great Grandad Is a Philip Coppeller (or Copela as other searches come up as) he lived in Ancoats and had an ice cream and soft drinks shop. I know he was born in italy around 1855 but thats where it ends? I really want to go further. Where abouts in Italy was he from? Who were his parents? When did they come over to Manchester? ( I won't ask the why question as a Manchester resident I know it wasn't for the weather !!) If anyone can help It would be greatly appreciated. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Mary Newstead I am researching my mother's side of the family. Her father was Dino Nardini and his father was Dario Nardini who was married to Liduina Nardini. They also had a daughter called Zina/Zena who I believe married a Romola Marcani and they emmigrated to the USA in the early part of last century. Dario and Liduina lived in Charles Street in 1901. I think he was a figure painter and his wife ran a cafe in Charles Street. Their only son Dino married my grandmother Margaret Alice Lillis. The Lillis family had a greengrocer's shop also in Charles Street at the time, which is how the families got to know each other. I have already found lots of information about each family except when the Nardini's arrived from Italy. I cannot find my grandfather Dino and my grandmother Margaret on the 1911 census maybe because I know they married in the same quarter of 1911 as the census was taken so maybe they were away on honeymoon at the time - if they had a honeymoon that is. I'm trying to find out where they were when the census was taken but have hit a dead end. I thought maybe he took her to Italy for a honeymoon or maybe even Scotland as I think there were relatives there at the time (possibly Oban). But I have had no luck in finding them. Dino was a figure painter and had some connection with the Alberti's in Manchester. Dino travelled to Italy regularly to buy marble (Carrara) and I think the Nardini's originally came from Lucca/Barga area, not far from Carrara. This is another thing I would like to verify i.e. where in Italy did they come from. I can't find any information about his travels to Italy for marble nor can I find the Nardini's arriving in England for the first time. I notice that Dario Nardini is mentioned on this website as being a founder member of the Italian Mutual Aid Society. I wonder if this was my Great Grandfather Dario? I believe he died in 1907 in Manchester and I would like to find where he is buried. I have lots of gaps in my research so if anyone knows anything about this family, please get in touch. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
